In today’s retail market, people throw around the word “couture” very loosely, however most don’t realize that in order for something to actually be considered couture, it takes a lot more work than what’s required for your average garment.
A haute couture garment is made specifically for the wearer’s measurements and body stance and usually takes dozens of seamstresses and hundreds of hours to make an entire collection.

In the video above, we’ve finally gotten a chance to see what goes into making a few of the pieces that came down the runway for Chanel’s Spring 2013 Couture collection. As you would expect, every detail down to the last jewel is hand sewn into the garment, after all, no machines are used to make actual couture.
