As cameras shuttered at the emotional press conference, Carol Gray, decked out in a black scarf and sunglasses to cover her tears, pleaded for the police to answer questions about her sons murder.

Gray held up a picture of her son, Kimani Gray, who was shot on Saturday by plain clothes police officers. The officers claim that Gray threatened them with a handgun.

“He was slaughtered,” Gray told a room filled with reporters. “And I want to know why.”

Gray, who affectionately called her son Kiki, spoke out just a day after almost 50 people were arrested after a candlelight vigil turned violent in East Flatbush.

“Today was very hard,” she said, and paused for a long moment before she was able to finish the sentence. “I had to choose the color of the casket that I wanted.”

“The past couple of days, the bell hasn’t rung,” she said. “I’m still waiting for him to come home.”

Gray said she doesn’t condone the violent protests, but she does wants answers, like why her son was struck with more than one bullet.

For Gray, this is the second tragedy for the family: Two years ago, her older son was killed in a car accident.

“Now I have to place my younger boy in the same hole,” she said.

We continue to keep the Gray family in our thoughts and prayers.
