Not many people get the chance to design campaign posters and patches for NASA astronauts, but Shepard Fairey is not your average guy.

CASIS (the Center of Advancement of Science in Space) was set up by Congress to manage the National Laboratory on the International Space Station. With ARK1 – the first CASIS-sponsored ISS launch – scheduled for September of this year, NASA tapped the accomplished artist to design the patch for the mission.

In the video above, Shepard breaks down his design process for the patch, as well as his feeling behind getting chosen for such an important undertaking. We are not sure what the significance was for getting Shepard Fairey to do the project, but we are sure that having your artwork somewhere in space, whether it’s on a patch or not, is reason enough for Shepard to participate.
