Over the years Magic Johnson has had to deal with some difficult situations, but his grace and honesty throughout his hardships are what have made him a legend.

We watched Magic demonstrate those same attributes this week as his son was in the spotlight for his sexuality.

VIDEO: Magic Johnson Defends Gay Son E.J: “He’s A Good Young Man”

Unexpectedly candid, he talked to TMZ about the time E.J. finally told his dad he was gay, how upset he gets when people say nasty things about his son, and how homosexuality affects the sports industry.

It was deep, but then again, Magic usually has an uplifting and very real message to get across to the public.

Simple, sincere, and to the point.

Check out Magic keeping it real about his life and the community. Dope quotes and pictures below…

Contracting HIV

“The real story is I had unprotected sex. That’s that. That’s easy.”

Dreams

“Believe it or not, I was once just like you… I was sitting in a school just like this. I had dreams and goals just like you and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be Magic Johnson.”

Be Like Mike

“If somebody says no to you, or if you get cut, Michael Jordan Jordan was cut his first year, but he came back and he was the best ever. That is what you have to have. The attitude that I’m going to show everybody, I’m going to work hard to get better and better.”

He Loooove The Kids

“Kids need to dream. They need to know that people care about them and they should be able to see outside every single day, because that’s what helps you learn.”

Letting The World Know He Was HIV Positive

“It’s a burden trying to keep a secret. It’s hard. It probably takes more out of you trying to hold it and keep it than it does for you to really let it out.”

Keeping His Head Up

“People thought I was going to go away. But I never planned on going anywhere.”

His Fight To Continue Playing

“They said playing basketball would kill me. Well, not playing basketball was killing me.”

Believe In Your Kids

“All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and somebody who believes in them.”

No Way!

“I tell you, it’s funny because the only time I think about HIV is when I have to take my medicine twice a day.”
