North Korea has suggested that Moscow and other countries close their embassies in Pyongyang, North Korea, causing much concern after dictator Kim Jong-Un warns he ‘cannot guarantee safety of foreigners.’

Foreign minister to Russia, Sergey Lavrov took a visit to Uzbekistan today where he stated that Russia is in touch with China, the United States, Japan and South Korea — all members of a dormant talks process with North Korea — to try to figure out the motivation.

About two dozen countries have embassies located in North Korea.

“We are very perturbed about the supercharged tensions, which for now are verbal. We want to understand the causes of this proposal,” said Lavrov.

Russia’s tensions have risen with North Korea after warnings of nuclear missiles and potential attacks have been sent to South Korea and the United States.

Alexander Lukashevich, Russia Foreign Ministry Spokesman, said on Thursday that he strongly criticizes North Korea for its “defiant neglect” of the United Nations Security Council resolutions. 

“We are counting on maximum restraint and composure from all sides,” said a ministry statement issued on Friday.
