Marcos Arenas, 15, valued everything that he had. Coming from a family that never had a lot, he treasured his belongings and didn’t take anything for granted.

And when the oldest of 10 siblings received an iPad for his birthday less than two months ago, he was estatic. But on Thursday, it was that same iPad that cost him his life.

The teen was killed when two men, 18-year-old Jacob Dismont and 21-year-old Michael Solid attempted to rob him.

Investigators say that Arenas was spotted walking down the street with his iPad by the two men when one of the passengers jumped out and tried to grab the device. But Arenas wouldn’t let go.

What happens next is gruesome and tragic:

After Dismont re-entered the vehicle and Solid sped away, the teen was dragged until he fell. The vehicle ran over Arenas and he died at a hospital.

His father, Ivan Arenas, spoke out about his son’s death.

“For him to lose his life over an iPad, it’s just not fair,” Ivan Arenas told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“Never in my life would I imagine that me buying my kid an iPad for his birthday would end up with him getting run over.”

The two men have been arrested and were charged with open murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Our deepest condolences to the Arenas family. May he rest in peace.
