“Take it to da house,” the court house that is. Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am is suing fellow rapper/producer Pharrell Williams over his use of the phrase “I am.”

That’s right folks, according to Mr. will.i.am, he owns the copyright to the phrase “I AM,” and does not want his fans or anyone else to confuse it with Pharrell’s brand logo, “i am OTHER.”

He explained that “the registration of the mark… is likely to dilute the I AM mark and the Will.i .am mark.”

Pharrell’s brand i am OTHER was created as a YouTube channel late last year and has evolved into what Williams describes as “a creative venture and way of life.” The brand focuses on music, film, television, apparel, tech and multimedia, which also include Pharrell’s famous clothing line, Billionaire Boys Club & ICECREAM, Brooklyn Machine Works, UJAM and more.

Pharrell responded back in a statement explaining that he was “disappointed that Will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me.”

He goes on to say:

“I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions. I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that Will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I do.”

Ouch, will.i.am has definitely stirred up some trouble here. Who knew those two words Dr. Seuss used could start drama between two rappers?
