President Barack Obama made history with the women of ABC daytime talk show The View’. President Obama is the first sitting president to ever be a guest on a daytime talk show. Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shephard, Elisabeth Hasselback and even Barbara Walters came back to host this special edition of the show. Though President Obama is the first sitting President to ever be on a daytime talk show, this is his second time being on ‘The View’. He first appeared on the show when he was running for office in March 2008 and November 2004.

President Obama was welcomed by all lovely ladies on the view and sat in center on the couch between Barbara Walters and Joy Behar. Not too long after joining the ladies on the couch, President Obama jokes about the couches on the view being made for little people. As the women of the view were enthused that President Obama agreed to interview on the show he quipped, ‘I was trying to find a show that Michelle actually watched, and so I thought, this is it right here.’

But it wasn’t all jokes with President Obama, he dropped more than a few gems on us too.

The Rose & The Thorn

The Obama’s have a dinner-time tradition in which they discuss the rose and the thorns of the day in which the rose is the good or positive and the thorn is the bad or difficult. It’s proven to be a great bonding tool for the family. As the Obama’s haven’t been able to do their ‘rose & thorn’ exercise since the children are away, the ladies of the view did it with him. Barbara Walters asks ‘In the last month, what has been the rose and what has been the thorn?’

The Rose: The First Family’s vacation in Maine.

The Thorn: Recovering the economy, the oil spill and ‘a host of other issues’.

See, President Obama teaches us that no matter what position we are holding, it’s always good to take a moment and evaluate our lives.
