Last night, Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, was presented the coveted crown of Miss America in the 2014 pageant that all little girls dream of participating in.

She looked flawless in her yellow gown, performed a mesmerizing Bollywood fusion dance for her talent competition, and her sculpted arms will make any of us run directly to the gym.

Even after missing her cue and then cutely recovering from it, she earned the crown.

A true endearing American story, right?

Not exactly. When Nina was given that shiny crown last night, the haters came out in full effect. Why? Because she’s the first Indian-American woman to be crowned Miss America, and the “true” Americans weren’t too happy that a white woman didn’t win.

Yeah, all those who claim we live in a post-racial world and that they “aren’t racists, but…”

Try not to break your computer screen:

But…she’s not even…nevermind.

Oh wait, this lady isn’t done yet:

And that’s just a few of the people who didn’t cower and delete their accounts or racist tweets after being put on blast for their hate.

But Nina doesn’t have any worries.

“I have to rise above that,” she said. “I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”

America, do better. Nina is a true, American story. Get over it.
