Here’s one more ridiculous and lawful example of rape culture and how government enjoys restricting women’s health rights.

Michigan lawmakers have passed a controversial bill into law on Wednesday that will ban all insurance plans in the state from covering abortion unless the woman’s life is in danger.

According to the Huffington Post:

The law, which takes effect in March, will force women and employers to purchase a separate abortion rider if they would like the procedure covered, even in cases of rape and incest.

But let’s think about this. The new law basically forces women to anticipate being raped (because, hey, it’s normal) and urges them to purchase extra abortion insurance ahead of time.

And if they don’t? Well, then we’re guessing the blame falls on the woman for not planning her rape ahead of time.

Are you fucking kidding?

“This tells women who were raped … that they should have thought ahead and planned for it,” said Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing) during debates. “Make no mistake, this is anything but a citizens’ initiative. It’s a special interest group’s perverted dream come true.”

During debates about the measure on Wednesday, many Democratic female lawmakers became emotional, telling personal stories about miscarriages and abortions.

State Rep. David Knezek (D) even stood up for women and put in his brilliant and true two cents, blasting the new law as “misogynistic.”

“This body made up of 80 percent men will make a decision that will impact 100 percent of women,” he said.

Well said. And extremely infuriating.
