Imagine a world turned upside down, a dystopia facing a drastic climate change where the people are forced to rebuild their communities in order to survive.

Although that sounds eerily similar to reality, this is the world Skingraft designer Jonny Cota envisioned for his Fall/Winter 2014 Alpha collection presented on day six of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Pulling inspiration from arctic tribal cultures who have successfully adapted to adverse weather conditions, every look was layered with heavy knits, leather and wool in dark shades of olive, indigo and black.

Worn in the past by Rihanna, Beyonce, Ciara, A$AP Rocky, and many, many other fashion killas, Skingraft’s aesthetic was delivered once again through their “nomadic streetwear lens.” The models, including rising star of the fashion industry Shaun Ross, represented the new-age goths in all their dark glory.

Trends spotted: Although the trend is not a new one, all-black ensembles live to see another season. Who are we kidding, though? All-black looks will always be in so long as lines like Skingraft keep showing us how badass they are. For exhibits A through J, peep the 10 photos in this post. Exactly.

My rating: Did I mention how badass this collection is? Because it is. The art of the all-black ensemble requires finesse, and Skingraft has mastered it. It goes beyond just putting together pieces of the same color, it’s about the details and this collection is full of them: hand-quilted leather, ribbed nylon-fused fleece, shaved ponyhair and mohair. There’s nothing lackluster about these looks.

My favorite look: The quilted crossover coat and moto skirt. Still as moody and dramatic as the rest of the line, this monochromatic look in indigo was a wildcard in the collection and a departure from the dominantly black outfits.
