Yesterday we learned two things about President Obama during his trip to New York City.

First, he knows the value of a good pair of Gap khakis. And second, V-necks are a no-go in his household.

Cameras caught the Commander-in-Chief making a surprise visit to a NYC-area Gap clothing store to pick up a few items for his family. After looking over some jeans and khakis, no doubt dad-style, he settled on a light pink crewneck sweater for Sasha and a bright pink one for Malia. The V-neck, he said, might “slip” off his daughter’s shoulders. And Obama the dad is not having that.

He also picked out a navy blue zip-up workout shirt for the First Lady. And when it was time to pay-up, the cashier gave him a gushing compliment, telling the President he was better looking in person.

“You hear that?” The President said to reporters.

“I think the ladies will be impressed with my style sense,” the President said as his items were rung up.

To be fair, Obama didn’t just visit the Gap for neutral clothes for his family.

A White House official explained the President’s impromptu stop: “In his State of the Union address, the President called for businesses to raise workers’ wages, and today the President will visit a Gap store to show his support for Gap Inc.’s decision to increase wages for their US based employees.”

I mean, light pink crewneck sweaters and dad jeans come a dime a dozen. But it just goes to show, you do right by the President, he’ll do right by you…and buy a pair of your best khakis while he’s at it.
