That Vivienne Westwood hat of his sure has been a distraction, because we really should have seen this one coming.
We know what it’s like to be so obsessed with a new buy that we just can’t help wanting to wear it everyday, so when we kept seeing Pharrell make appearances in different colors of the Adidas classic Firebird jacket, we just figured that he really, really liked it. Just like that hat.
But the superstar producer and Grammy-winning artist had something else up his three-striped sleeve: a new collaboration with the German brand for a line of original products featuring his Bionic Yarn made of plastic debris from the ocean.
Pharrell spoke to WWD about the long-term collaboration, saying:
“[It’s] an amazing opportunity to work with creative people who understand where I’m coming from and respect my taste while having access to great technology and an amazing brand history….It’s my line so it comes from my heart and mind,” he said. “I’m taking this very seriously. [It’s for] basically everyone. [I’m] not doing this for any specific demographic; I hate being put in a category anyway.””
Skateboard P has been getting pretty lucky this year: his collection for Adidas is the latest in the lineup of his brand collaborations. He’s already teamed up with G-Star, has a fragrance with Comme des Garçons in the works, and joined forces with Uniqlo, just to name a few.
