“Pretty Hurts” is the third single off of Bey’s historic and ground-breaking album, Beyonce, following “XO” and “Drunk In Love” with husband Jay Z.
With today’s constant backlash on social media from men and women degrading other women, this video perfectly displays the perils we go through to fit society’s definition of “pretty.” As Miss 3rd Ward, Bey shows the extremes that take place when people try gain acceptance before realizing that “perfection is a disease of the nation,” whilst the real aspiration in life is to just be happy.
Bey’s influence over the world has garnered the icon the cover of TIME magazine’s ‘100 Most Influential People’ 2014 edition. This, along with the release of her “Pretty Hurts” video, has led to a new campaign called, “What Is Pretty?”
