A Waffle House waitress was surprised with a huge tip from a friendly customer, but left disappointed after her manager refused to actually give her the money.

According to the Daily Mail, North Carolina native Shaina Brown was left puzzled after Waffle House withheld a $1,000 tip from her during her graveyard shift on Mother’s Day. The customer also gave $500 to another customer sitting next to him.

He said, “I’m going to bless you today,'” Brown told FoxNews.com on Tuesday. ‘He was just trying to show that there are still good people out there.’

However, the Waffle House manager refused to give Brown the cash, citing a restaurant policy against servers receiving large tips made on a credit card – according to the restaurant, the rule is in place in case a customer later disputes the charge.

For fraud and security purposes, Waffle House decided to refund the tip to the customer. After a reporter helped Brown track the generous man down, he happily wrote her a personal check for the tip. As it turns out, the man is a local businessman who owns several restaurants in the area.

“I try to make them feel as comfortable as possible,’ Brown said. ‘He knows good service when he sees it.'”

We’re glad Brown was finally able to receive her tip for the outstanding service, and glad there are still people out there who spread the wealth.
