Pop singer Kesha might sing about unicorns, glitter and partying, but the “Crazy Kids” artist is steering away from her hot and dangerous image in favor of a tamer, more covered up version of herself on the August cover of Teen Vogue.

This might be a new side to the singer, but she looks fabulous. She’s buttoned up in a denim blouse with a loose bow tie, black slacks, and bracelet cuffs. Her hair gives off that ‘wild and free’ Kesha vibe we all know and love.

Inside the magazine, Kesha (no $) opens up about her past party girl image and reveals details about dealing with her body image, especially as she has been more and more in the spotlight recently after being treated in rehab for an eating disorder.

“To have a breakthrough you have to have a breakdown, and I definitely went through both of those—in hindsight, it saved my life. Things got worse because I’m in an industry where people photograph your body and zoom in and blow it up and put it on the cover of magazines, and other people make terrible comments. The decision to take control of it is the scariest thing I’ve ever done, and this is coming from someone who dives with sharks and jumps out of airplanes for fun.”

Kesha’s decision to face her problems head on also helped her to produce 14 songs during her two-month stay in rehab. The pop star also discusses how it’s tough being a poster kid for confidence and ‘badassness’ while dealing with an illness. She gives some advice to people who are in similar situations as hers:

“My whole message is to love who you are and accept all your beautiful imperfections. When I felt I was slipping into unloving territory with myself, I knew I had to listen to my own advice and correct it.”
