With the grand jury decision on whether to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of Ferguson, Mo. teenager Michael Brown Jr. days away, the case is about to get some global attention.

The parents of the slain teen, Lesley McSpadden and Michael Brown Sr., are traveling to Switzerland on Monday to testify before a United Nations Committee against Torture and discuss racial profiling, police violence, and human rights.

The committee, which includes members from countries like China, Senegal, and Italy, will meet Wednesday and Thursday to look at human rights issues in the U.S., including police brutality and Guantanamo Bay detainees.

From USA Today:

Brown’s parents will be part of the delegation of human rights advocates organized by the New York and Atlanta based U.S. Human Rights Network to meet in Geneva. Several protesters from Ferguson also will be going on the trip.

St. Louis University Assistant Professor Justin Hansford co-authored the report that the delegation submitted to the United Nations.

“So here in the open forum for the first time, they will be able to tell both the committee members and the world, exactly what’s on their mind,” said Hansford.

Back in Ferguson, a grand jury decision is expected to be made public either this week or next. We’ll keep you updated with the latest.
