Lorde killed this…in an awkward Kiwi kind of way.

During her time at BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, Lorde was asked to cover a song of her choice, and she unexpectedly chose Chicago R&B singer Jeremih’s “Don’t Tell ‘Em.”

The DJ Mustard-produced song is currently among the top 10 records on the Billboard Hot 100. Shocking the DJ, Lorde explained why she chose the song.

“I have basically been a really big fan of this song since I first started hearing it. I love the vocal melodies. I think they’re really smart and just consider them cool. It’s quite a saucy song and I think it would be interesting to flip the dynamic and make that power mine.”

The 18-year-old pop star’s “Yellow Flicker Beat” is featured on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack, which drops November 18.

Earlier this week, Lorde dropped a revamped version of “Yellow Flicker Beat,” which was remade by Kanye West. Clearly, Lorde has something for artists from Chicago.
