A medical examiner has officially ruled the death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice a homicide.

Medical examiner Thomas P. Gilson released the child’s autopsy today, reporting Rice died due to a gunshot wound to the torso, causing injuries to the major vessel, intestines, and pelvis.

Tamir was killed by police officer Timothy Loehmann after a 911 call was placed reporting the boy was playing with a gun in a Cleveland park, which turned out to be a Airsoft type BB gun.

Tamir’s mother spoke out in a press conference earlier this week, recalling the events of the November shooting. Samaria Rice claimed two boys came to her doorstep to notify her of the shooting. When she arrived at the recreational park, she saw her son on the ground and her daughter in handcuffs in the back of the police car.

Loehmann claims the child didn’t comply with his verbal demands, but video surveillance shows the officer shooting Rice about two seconds after arrival on the scene.
