Seven out of the eight photos in Miley Cyrus‘s PAPER Magazine cover story spread are sans clothes. Don’t let this distract you, though. The accompanying article, “Free to Be Miley,” discusses her views on life, love, and human and animal rights alike in such a manner that the photos, a mere accompaniment to her powerful words, present themselves as a manifestation of Cyrus’s holistic values.

The article, written by music journalist Amanda Petrusich, is a window into the soul of adult Miley—it mentions but pays little mind to her past so-called “antics” and focuses on her current mentality and social activism, specifically her non-profit Happy Hippie Foundation.

According to PAPER:

…The problem of homelessness became impossible for her to ignore. “I can’t drive by in my fucking Porsche and not fucking do something,” she says. “I see it all day: people in their Bentleys and their Rolls and their Ubers, driving past these vets who have fought for our country, or these young women who have been raped.” She pauses. “I was doing a show two nights ago, and I was wearing butterfly nipple pasties and butterfly wings. I’m standing there with my tits out, dressed like a butterfly. How the fuck is that fair? How am I so lucky?”

Yesterday, PAPER teased Miley’s cover image for its upcoming “Use Your Voice” summer issue and tongues were left wagging. Now that the accompanying text has been released, it’s hard not to applaud Miley for her refusal to be a bystander.

By the way, did anyone else take the time to notice that her pet pig, Bubba Sue, had polish on her fingernails? Lesson: don’t let nudity divert your attention from the important things, people.
