The 6 God was presented the key to the city on last Friday at the Ricoh Coliseum, just moments prior to the NBA All Star Celebrity Basketball Game.

Mayor John Tory presented the honor to Drake, and felt no one deserved it more than the Toronto native. He expressed that the key is a symbol of thanks and a way to congratulate Drake on all of his accomplishments.

“It’s not just about being famous. He’s very devoted to the city,” Tory said. “He lives here and spends time doing things for the community and inspiring kids.”

Drake takes the honor of having the key to Toronto seriously. He said he wants to be a role model and encouraged everyone to do right by the city so that it could be a great place for Toronto residents to live and people to visit.

“I just want to say thank you to a city that is unconditionally supportive, unconditionally loving and a place that is such a cultural mosaic,” he said.

Kevin Hart who has been friends with Drake, faced off during the Celebrity Basketball Game as team coaches. When asked what he thought about Drake receiving the key to the city, the comedian simply stated, “It’s not a real key.”

“They’re giving him a fake key,” he continued. “I’ve seen keys and I’ve gotten keys to the city and his key opens nothing up so there you have it. The cats out the bag.”
