Besides making a million off a mixtape, allegedly everyone’s new found favorite Barbie, Nicki Minaj is the latest celebrity to have a sex tape hit the Web. The tape is reportedly being punted around with an asking price of $100,000, and it is claimed that it features the 26-year-old before she rose to fame.

Maybe Roman is actually getting his revenge after all.

It’s not certain that this alleged sex tape will be released or even exists, however, everyone adores the thought of a possible juicy sex scandal. Why are we even so concerned with what celebrities do in the privacy of their bedroom?

With the advent of the internet and blogs dedicated to mocking celebrities, leaked nude photos stolen from cell phones and computers are constantly found in the hands of the public. Most recently, nude photos of Kanye West hit the net, while Rihanna, Cassie and Trina are also among those who have fallen victim to leaked shots. One can only wonder how these actions are done for a quick publicity stint.

The media constantly criticizes any celebrity that has any sort of sexual images in their work, whether it is found in a movie or music video. Now it seems we’re at a point where if they don’t have one, we speculate. Hyper-sexualization in female careers in the entertainment industry is always mocked with alleged photos and sex tapes. The notion of advancement to gain more popularity can be blurred with the lines of success due to being sexual.

Let’s face it, we love sexy. Sexuality is human nature, it’s in our genes. Provocative sexual imagery has been around since the beginning of time. Let alone the admiration and often glorified images of the exquisite female body.

However, some are rewarded and then some are castigated for their work. Kim Kardashian and Halle Berry are prominent examples of women taking the harsh criticism and rising amidst the animosity. We’re all familiar with the Kardashian empire which was built on the shoulders of sex kitten Kim Kardashian in the bed with her at-the-time boyfriend, Ray J. Reality TV shows, fragrances and retail stores have been the offspring fueling the strong presence of the Kardashian brand. Take Halle Berry, she won numerous awards and most importantly an Academy Award for her role in “Monster’s Ball.” She’s been a powerful actress with deserving parts but what made her “Monster’s Ball” role so different. Perhaps, her provocative sex scene? Now she’s in the running again for a Golden Globe in her upcoming film “Frankie and Alice.”

It’s not a surprise that the Pink Friday ambassador, Nicki Minaj, finds herself at this point with her promising career. The roles and expectations of female sexuality in the entertainment industry has become the standard. Women in the entertainment industry are an important element that depicts the disadvantages women face on a day-to-day basis. Being sexy is okay but there’s a fine line between sexy and slutty. Where you draw the line is objective.

Woman entertainers have a tough social responsibility to properly balance the tenacity to enter the male dominated industry and the discernment in which the way they enter. If not careful, they’ll find themselves as a sex symbol that won’t last longer than a five-minute sex scene.
