The CNN news anchor and host of ‘Rick’s List’ (which replaced Campbell Brown’s slot just months ago) was recently, and very quickly I might add, fired from news powerhouse CNN earlier this week.  This was following an interview with Pete Dominick’s satellite radio show where he mentioned such things like ‘Jon Stewart is a bigot’ ‘Look who he surrounds himself with; [Jews] Run the media & CNN’. Listen to the full interview here –> http://bit.ly/8ZuZyw Let me start off by saying I watch ‘Rick’s List’, ‘The Daily Show’, ‘The Colbert Report’ amongst all the other news programs you can think of. (A LOT of down time at work!) I can tell you I saw this coming.  If you didn’t know, Rick Sanchez has been the pit of several jokes over at the two Comedy Central programs. Also, Rick has responded to those jokes several times on his show. First, all in good fun. He took it like a good sport, but then it was very clear he wasn’t taking too kindly to these jokes after a while. You can see some here –> http://bit.ly/bSOIQZ & here –> http://bit.ly/bSOIQZ (BTW I couldn’t find video of Rick’s responses on ‘The Rick’s List’) Before I get to what Mr. Sanchez had said, which indeed were off-based, I must give my opinion that he was bullied. And in the aftermath of the recent suicide death of Rutger’s student Tyler Clementi, bullying has been on my mind. Whether it’s a closeted gay student treated in the worst imaginable manner or some comedians doing what they do best: make jokes, I have empathy for anyone that I know is hurt by another’s actions. In Rick Sanchez’s case in this interview, he was talking in circles and speaking before he had a chance to fully think out what and how he wanted to say his points.  Not to forget he was frustrated, insulted and had pent up anger over those giving him a hard time. He could not help but think ‘What is it about me? I can’t think of anything, is this discriminitive???’ After all, he’s faced many adversities to get to where he is in a profession that has a lack of prominent Hispanic figures. I’m sure all those thoughts go through his mind…and it makes sense to when you’ve experienced adversities. He mentions ‘I am not a dumb latino’ and while, Jon Stewart never said that, Sanchez may be grasping at things as to why he is picked on in ‘The Daily Show’ as well as other areas of the news world where that very well may be the case (subtle and/or obvious). Additionally, I am saddened to hear ‘Rick’s List’ has been canceled, it was nice to know CNN replaced a FEMALE news anchor with a LATINO one, but now that is no more. (Random Thought: Maybe CNN jumped on this opportunity because of the show’s low ratings? Cambell Brown had lower ratings as well.) If anything, look at Rick Sanchez’s POV before jumping to conclusions. AND let this week allow us to, if anything, reflect on HOW WE MAKE OTHERS FEEL! #itgetsbetter

Until Next Time,
