Alyson Michalka is the feisty and sexy Marti Perkins on the CW’s new hit cheerleader dramedy Hellcats, but before she put on the short skirt and picked up her pom-poms, she was just like Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Selena Gomez; she was a Disney actress turned singer.
Alyson got her Mouse House start on the short-lived sitcom Phil of the Future and soon found herself dabbling in music. But unlike her fellow Disney pop tarts, Alyson didn’t take the solo route to pop stardom. She joined forces with her little sister, AJ Michalka, to form Aly & AJ.
Though they were clearly being pushed for for the teeny bopper set, Aly & AJ drew critical acclaim for their songwriting. Their biggest hit, ‘Chemicals React,’ was an unstoppable force on pop radio and you couldn’t watch TV without hearing the song being used in a commercial.
