NBA All-Star Weekend 2010 Alonzo Mourning/Magic Johnson and Ford Motors Celebrity 8-Ball Challenge!

On February, 11th the festivities for NBA All-Star Weekend kicked off with a few hot parties for snowy Dallas, Texas. With a record setting amount of snowfall, the city’s highways were at a slow crawl and the natives seemed like they didn’t know what hit them.
For the out of towners from the East Coast, it was nothing new, so we trooped the artic conditions and headed over to Zo & Magic’s 5th annual 8-Ball Challenge pool tournament, sponsored by the good folks at Ford Motors.

The weather was an issue early on. We all thought the huge Centennial Hall at Fair Park, where the event was being held, would look like a ghost town with it’s vastness and few people to fill it, but as the night progressed the attendees started to file on in. The atmosphere was laid back and chill. The excitement came when Alonzo, MJ and his wife Cookie Johnson hit the red carpet (which was actually blue). They spoke about the importance of giving back to the community and helping the youth find themselves so they to could come back as success stories and help others.

The supporting organizations were represented for Alonzo Mourning Charities, The Magic Johnson Foundation and radio legend Tom Joyer Foundation. Other celebs included former NBA’ers Steve Smith and Dennis Scott, Cedric Ceballos, sports reporter Stephen A. Smith and actress Vivica A. Fox.

Ford Motors was a big player in the festivities as they announced the winner of their Ford ‘Taurus Top Ten’ competition, which was designed to shine a spotlight on individuals that are not only on top in their respective fields, but who also make a difference in the communities around them.

Johnny Deas of Lewisville, TX.  Won the grand prize out of the ten finalists. A former Marine, Deas founded GREAT IDEAS EDUTAINMENT FOUNDATION – a non-profit using entertainment to teach financial literacy and life skills in urban communities. Funded from his own money, Deas program is a treasure in his community. While accepting his award, the overwhelmed Deas thanked everyone he could think of…and more!
