Cypher Sounds and Jay Electronica went back and forth this morning about the controversial line in Jay Electronica’s Exhibit C, about rappers from New York which states:

“When New York niggas were callin’ Southern rappers lame but then jackin’ our slang”

Cypher Sounds explains to Jay Electronica that before he can support him, he needs to know what Jay Electronica is trying to say.

Jay Electronica states ‘I ain’t trying to say nothing. I said it! That back along time ago when i left home[New Orleans] and i was burning n*ggas alive with rhymes. That n*ggas wouldn’t even wanna hear what I was saying, because of where I’m from. Then i got to a point where I started seeing no shots to nobody, Jay, different artist that were prominent hip hop artist that started taking the lingo, ‘holla back, bout it bout it,’ and then even started changing swag, even to the point… Where it evolved to the point to where 50 came out and he sounded like he was from Memphis on Get Rich and Die Trying! Not just the slang it took the whole swag… even Drake he’s from Toronto…’

Jay Electronica then goes on to state that if it wasn’t for New York rappers he wouldn’t be where he is today. I applaud Jay Electronica for this because it’s nothing that hasn’t been said in barber shops, and lunch room hip hop discussions for a long time now. I wonder if 50 Cent will get mad and diss Jay Electronica now? I mean he’s dissed less relevant rappers for less. #KanyeShrug
