‘SNL’ Funny Man Bill Hader Talks Human Parking Cones and Stifling the Laughs (PHOTOS)
What makes a seasoned Saturday Night Live veteran like Bill Hader break character and crack up? His Weekend Update role of Stefon, an emo party kid who shares his often debauched thoughts on NYC’s nightlife scene. Last week, Hader succumbed to the giggles during this skit ( http://www.hulu.com/watch/200104/saturday-night-live-weekend-update-stefon) and when Global Grind caught up with the comic at the premiere of “True Grit” earlier this week, Hader exclusively explained to us exactly what happened.

So the Human Parking Cone sketch…
[Laughs.] I couldn’t get through that bit, because instead of “midgets” they changed the text in the very last second to “jacked midgets” which started making me laugh. Super buff midgets scare me. I can’t talk about it now without laughing.
How long does it take you get the giggles out when rehearsing a sketch?
The Stefon bits are impossible because they’re constantly changing the scripts. They’re changing the lines sometimes minutes before we go out there. They’ll come up and say ‘Hey, this is all different, but just look at the cue cards and you’ll be fine.” [Laughs] And changing it because the show’s running long and they’re trying to cut stuff down. So I’ll go do those things, then look up and it’s something I’ve never seen before. I’d seen “jacked midgets” on the cards before, but it’s just really funny to me, so I couldn’t get through it without cracking up.

What brings you to the premiere tonight?
Jeff Bridges. He’s hosting SNL [tomorrow night] and I’ve always been a big fan, and wanted to come and show my support. I can’t wait to see him in [“True Grit”.]
Since Bridges is known for the stoner comedy “The Big Lebowski,” how many skits themed around that can we expect on Saturday?
I don’t know, man. [Laughs] How do you parody the funniest movie ever made? How do you make that funny? The best we could do is actually show the movie [Laughs]. It’s like already the funniest thing on earth. I think we’re working on one sketch though.
