Last week I got the chance to witness history as Alicia Keys and her friends took over the Apollo with Billboardlive.com for an amazing show. The show started off with a quick song from Alicia Keys, Empire State Of Mind Part II, and then she introduced an amazing artist by the name of Elle Varner. As Elle’s voice filled the world famous Apollo, I bopped my head to her soulful tunes. Her energy was amazing and a small kid with a crush started to develop deep inside my blogger soul. A quick search on the internet didn’t amount to much, but I did manage to find her twitter page.

The next artist to hit the stage was Hope, followed by Jermaine Paul. Jermaine Paul covered the entire stage w/ his energetic set, singing his single Airplane. I actually liked the song, chuckling when he said ‘I’ll take an airplane and fly it through a hurricane for you’ Now that’s love.

Marsha Ambrosius was next to take the stage and her set was absolutely amazing. People have been telling me I need to catch her live and it was amazing as expected. The highlight of her set was when Alicia joined her on stage to perform Butterflies.

Raheem Devaugn took the stage next and tore the place up! He jumped in the audience and sung to the ladies. Raheem sung songs off his albums and had a special request by Alicia Keys. She asked him to sing one of her favorite songs which happened to be one of my favorites are well. ‘YOU’ that song will get the ladies to love you I swear. @RadioRah handle the first verse and Alicia handled the second. Epic.

The crowd got another surprise when the wonderful Melanie Fiona showed up. She had 2 dancers with her and her voice was absolutely amazing. I keep thinking to myself Melanie stole the show. It was her first time performing at the Apollo. I asked her about the experience to which she said:

‘I grew up watching Showtime at the Apollo and thinking ‘W0W!!! Those people are amaaazing! I always wondered what it would be like to perform there and now I can say that I do. It was historic. It felt legendary to hit that stage. To feel the energy of every artist that’s performed there before me, was so inspiring. All the artists who performed that night were legendary.”The crowds energy was ALIVE last night. Its like the crowd caught the spirit of the audience during Showtime.’

Melanie is not only an awesome artist she’s also a globalgrind blogger. After Melanie was done, she brought out Alicia Keys who closed off an amazing night with all of her hit songs. Overall the night was great, it seemed to me that Alicia was passing a bit of greatness off to the other R&B Artist, such as Melanie Fiona. I came away from that night feeling like there’s more to the R&B world than Rihanna and Beyonce. We have a lot of amazing artist to choose from.
