To honor the born day of hip-hop’s most prolific producer, DJ Premier, I’ve put together a list of my favorite Premo songs that have been the structure for what I believe is the heart and soul of dope hip-hop. To single handedly make the ‘Premo’ sound of jazzy melodies against hard drums and chopped and scratched vocal bits is a feat in its self. His style of music making is lauded by those that are respected in the same way. Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest sights the Hard To Earn album as his fave.
Despite the fact that Premo and his partner Guru haven’t worked together in years and Guru’s health status is in question right now, Premo still supports his brother in rhyme with constant shout outs of love.
