Russell Simmons was honored in his home town of Hollis on September 11th 2010. The hip hop mogul was one of the many home town heroes from Queens, NY to be honored on the Hollis Hip Hop Walk Of Fame. This amazing honor was inspired by Hollywood’s Walk of Fame for the many people who have represented hip hop. The honorees included RUN DMC and JMJ, Ed Lover, FUBU and Russell Simmons

The events was filled with a friends, family and residents of Hollis. At one point I overheard someone saying ‘it seemed like the entire Hollis came out’! Most likely to see their legends be honored on the Hollis Hip Hop Walk Of Fame. Director Brett Ratner was also in attendance as well as Victoria Secret Model Victoria Hall.

Diggy Simmons was also one of the many people to be on hand. When asked how was it to see his uncle be honored he said ‘It’s amazing and inspiring to me, and even though I’m not necessarily from the streets of Queens it feels good to just be a part of all the people that came before me.’

It was an amazing sight to see the honor in Diggy’s eyes as he watched legends before him be honored forever in the streets of Hollis.

‘I don’t look at these achievements as personal I look at it as an inspiration these kids need to know that you’re not stuck in your position and that’s what hip hop represents. People think hip Hop is about fame and fortune but it’s about how I figure out how can i change my life? And when I change my life how can i make it better for everybody else? So I don’t take none of this personal because it comes with the territory.’ ~ DMC on Being Honored in Hollis
