EXCLUSIVE BLOG by Samantha Marq: Gay Rights…
In a country where freedom and equality reign supreme, why is an entire population of people still fighting for basic civil liberties? We are fooling ourselves if we think that withholding rights from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community isn’t in direct contradiction with the founding principals of America. No matter how you look at it, the question remains the same; who are we to dictate how other people live their lives? You can’t help who you love. The heart wants what it wants. I could go on and on listing quotes about love’s stubborn qualities. But how can we punish consenting adults for expressing the pure emotions of their hearts?
This past weekend I had the opportunity to perform at Philadelphia’s Equality Forum Sunday OUT 2010. It is the region’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered street festival, and I couldn’t have been happier to be a part of it! I performed, along with Kristine Elezaj and Agnes, and I must say the show went phenomenally! Throughout most of the day, the weather was extremely hot and humid but thankfully it ended up cooling down a little bit before I went on stage (although, you wouldn’t have been able to tell judging by the immense amount of sweat dripping from my face after only 4 songs.)
The audience’s energy was so amazing, I couldn’t help but match it. Who could blame me? It was definitely one of my favorite performances thus far. To top things off, we had everyone come on stage and dance with us for the last song. One word….incredible!

The next day, KO and I visited Q102, and I was interviewed by the one and only, Maxwell! He happens to be an old friend of KO’s, and I have known him since we started this project. It’s crazy to think of how far we’ve come since we first went into the recording studio! Anyways, we recapped the show and reminisced about old times. It was the perfect end to a wonderful weekend! I want to give a big thanks to everyone who came out. Thanks to Q102 for having me! Thanks to Puma for dressing us, thanks to Maxwell for being our tour guide, and thanks to Philadelphia for being SO amazing! I can’t wait to go back!
