As the champagne is popped and poured in a room full of beautiful people, glasses lift by Artistic minds and familiar faces that fill space and inhabit the special section of the packed club. An ocean of laughter drowns out any breath of doubt. Everyone here is having a great time.
Then I wake up, wash my face brush my teeth plug my headphones in and get to work on the next song with this motion picture I plan to one day call my life, playing in the back of my head. Some children were given the opportunity to be kids. Others took the responsibility of setting goals and living dreams. I grew up in studios packed with real musicians, and listen to the stories from men and women who’ve walked different paths in life all trying to reach the same goal, Immortality.
At 14 I won ROC THE MIC; at 16 I won the Source Battle; at 17 I won The Scion Prospect. Here now barely in my 20s, with fans old and young approaching me about my musical endeavors, I realize living in the fire we call fame the hardest thing is to remain cool. As a new face in the game my ambition is fueled by the objective called: ‘Get your picture put up on wall in the halls of Hip-Hop.’ My name is Mookie Jones, and I am a starving artist.
