Cornell Henderson, 15, was shot and killed Sunday night in the Southwest Side’s Marquette Park neighborhood student at Chicago Vocational Career Academy.
Henderson is from the 6800 block of South Campbell Avenue, he was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m. according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Henderson suffered two gunshot wounds to the back shortly before 8:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of West Lithuanian Plaza Court, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.
Henderson was a 9th-grader at Chicago Vocational Career Academy, said Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Monique Bond.
Family members believe Henderson was caught in a crossfire and wasn’t the intended target.
