Last night in L.A, Elle Magazine hosted the Indie Spirit Awards. The turn out was plentiful, as hollywood is filled with A-list celebrities for tomorrow’s well anticipated Oscar Awards. However, for the Indepedent Film Community, this is their big night, a few days before The Oscars.  Usually held on Santa Monica Beach on Saturday afternoon, they moved it to the Nokia Theatre on Friday Night!  Primetime! Precious was the huge winner of last night, but I, as always, was more interested in the looks that dazzled on the special ‘blue carpet.’

As the night was intended to honor Indie films, and oh what a year it was for the Indies, for me, last night served as a fashion week follow up! With trends and colors that we should all prepare to incorporate into our new spring and summer wardrobes, let’s take a quick minute and look back on last night’s Spirit Awards blue carpet arrivals.

Carey Mulligan who was amazing in The Education and who is dating Shia LeBouf, wore a black Christopher Kane cut-out dress with a finished lace hemline and Giuseppe Zanotti Sandalls.

Gabby Sidibe, who broke our hearts in the starring role of Precious, opted for a black layered knee length dress with a cute sweater.

Maggie Gyllenhal, who rocked out in Crazy Heart, wore a sexy long black dress. The only issue I had with her look is I strongly felt she could have done without the black tights and would have loved to seen her add some bold jewelry like jade or turquoise.

Next we saw the return and execution of how to wear an asymetrical look.

Mariah Carey, who gave such a dramatic performance in Precious, went for a form fitting understated look.

Rachel Lefevre of New Moon wore a stunning nude one shoulder dress that made her sort of resemble a Grecian Goddess.

Vera Farmiga, who was not nominated this year but is an amazing actress, wore a ruby colored dress by Marchesa that was so beautifully constructed it was more reminiscent of art work than blue carpet dress.

Then there was the merger of creamy and dark. The way all three ladies paired nudes and darks were a smash hit!

Olivia Wilde, who never disappoints on the carpet, embraced the gloden flowing frock which flattered her frame.

Mia Wasikowska, Hollywood’s newest starlett and the star of the mega-blockbuster, Alice In Wonderland, wore Rodarte and channeled an Ice Princess, while knocking off the chill with black opaque tight.

Lastly the was Brittany Snow, who was my choice for the best dressed of the night. She wore a color blocked mini that paid homage to a 70’s flower child and chose me
