INFAMOUS O’S MIXTAPE MASSACRE REVIEW

Don Cannon & Young Jeezy: Trap or Die II

The next time you go pick up your “prescription” from your neighborhood “pharmacist,” ask him/her who their favorite rappers are and there’s a pretty good chance they’ll mention Young Jeezy somewhere in their list. Not because he’s the most creative lyricist (“‘what he thinkin’’? got ‘em wonderin’/meanwhile I’m workin’ wonders, I’m the wonder man.” ‘Nuff said), and not because his flow leaves his peers searching for life preservers (R.I.P. B.I.G. & Pun), but it has more to do with the fact that his words resonate with a block hugger’s way of thinking more so than your everyday hip-hop fan. The title alone should state who the obvious target audience for this mixtape is.

That said it was only right that Jeezy team with the kings of nose candy metaphors and similes, The Clipse on the catchy tune,  “ILL’IN” where Jeezy proudly stated, “The way I work that work out, call me a trainer! Pour that water right off the top. Who needs a strainer?” Not to mention that The Clipse seem to have taken a swipe at Hova on the joint. On the bouncy and bass driven “Lose My Mind,” Jeezy got a helping hand from Plies and created a joint sure to get rumps shaking and pavements cracking, and went in hard on the street banger, “Stop Play With Me.”

“D Boyz” is sure to become the doughboys anthem come summer time and give wide eyed kids a hustler’s ambition. On “Greatest Rapper Alive,” Jeezy went in with the rhymes spitting, “We run around with big guns all day we like M.A.S.H./run around with big funds all day we might brass/never know, it can happen today, we might last/that’s why we living all for the present, we might pass/taught to get it straight from the roots, we like grass/why you think we keep on coppin’ the coups, we like fast.”
