Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls is Oscar Worthy!

Today is the premiere of Tyler Perry’s, For Colored Girls. I caught the first matinee showing of the movie in a suburb of Chicago. With it being a weekday, I was thinking that there would be a smattering of people there. Was I ever wrong! The theater was sold out, and a diverse audience was in attendance to enjoy Perry’s latest cinematic creation.
Perry’s version of For Colored Girls was an amazing, passionately acted screenplay. It was adapted from the original play, For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf written by Ntozake Shange. It is very evident that this movie was Tyler’s love offering to ladies everywhere that flowed from his heart, to his pen and out onto the big screen. There were no lags in the movie. Your attention is captivated from beginning to the end. The audience is intimately drawn in and concerned about the welfare of each character.
The cast was well represented by some of the most talented actors and actress in Hollywood… Thandie Newton, Phylicia Rashad Hill harper, Whoopi Goldberg, Janet Jackson, Kimberly Elise to name a few. All of the cast gave heart wrenching performances drawing up from the depths of their being to express the passion and complexities of their characters into the story line of the movie.
The characters weave their way through very challenging situations trying to find the road to redemption and wholeness. All of the main characters are given equal screen time which gives the movie viewers an opportunity to get to know each one very intimately. The rich thought provoking dialog transitioned beautifully into the original prose and poetry of For Colored Girls… which helped to accentuate the movie’s most dramatic scenes.
This is an ultimate Chick Flick movie, there is no denying that. But fellas, you too can take something away from the film as the deep complex emotions and mindsets of women are exposed. Look and learn. The entertain
