Recently a few of the globalgrind staff, my daughter and I went to a secret location to kick it with the lovely Teairra Mari. The kid enjoyed pizza, and got to see one of her favorite singers pose for a photo shoot. We discussed jumping out planes and playing Guitar Hero on Wii. All in all I had a great time and she’s one of the most down to Earth people I’ve ever met. Her album At This Point is about to drop and Ms. Automatic Teairra Mari is ready to tell you about the point she is at in her life.

Xilla: What Point Are You At Right Now?

Teairra Mari: I am at a great point, a fulfilling point of no return, like I can’t go back home, I can’t look back I’ve come too far. I’m at that point in my life where I don’t care about naysayers or critics I just live for me, that’s the best point to be at right?

Of course, you have a song called Ms. Automatic f. Nicki Minaj. How did Nicki Minaj end up on your track, and how was it working with her?

When we first did the record they were like we got space for a rapper, so they were like throwing out all these names of known artist male and female, and I was like have you ever heard of this girl called Nicki Minaj. Rico was like no, so I went on the Internet and typed her named in and they heard her rap they were like alright cool. So I called LIl Wayne like give me your girl’s number I want to get her on this record, so I called her and sent her the record and she sent it back the same night. She’s just like Wayne she’s a workaholic, she killed it, we loved it and it was automatic. I’m Ms. Automatic and she’s Ms Automatic

What Can We Expect From Your New Album ‘At This Point’?

I grew up, my vocals have changed they are much more mature, my content is much more mature, its more of a life experience. On my first album it was like ‘this is what I want to do, and I’m going to this,’ so this album is like what I really been through. I been through an abusive relationship, I been through heartbreak, love and lust, I been through trying to find my way. I’m 21 and I’m at that point in my life, where its like you either know what you want to do or you don’t know what you want to do. And even if you know what you want to do you still have to find your path.

What’s Your Definition of Love?

My definition of love is happiness, equality, and you don’t see flaws when you’re in love, and you give your all and you get it back in return. I think it’s a two way street and if it’s not you’re not in love. It’s 50/50 I’ll pay for dinner sometimes or you’ll pay for dinner sometimes.

This album is coming out on Warner but what happened with Rocafella?

To be honest with you, I don’t know what happened. I know they put a lot of money in the album, but it didn’t do as well as they anticipated it to
