Chris Lane, an Australian college student, was fatally shot in the back as he was jogging by three teenagers in Oklahoma.

An athlete accepted into Oklahoma College on a baseball scholarship, Lane was returning from visiting his girlfriend’s house in the small town of Duncan when he was killed. Chief of Duncan Police Department Danny Ford stated that Lane’s killers shot him “just for the fun of it.”

“They wanted to be Billy Bob Badasses.”

Chief Ford also stated:

“He went by a residence where these three boys were, they picked him as a target, they went out and got in a vehicle and followed him… (They) came up from behind and basically shot him in the back with a small calibre weapon, then sped away.”

Witnesses recalled seeing Lane stumble and then fall into a nearby gutter.

The three suspects are 15, 16, and 17 years old. It was the 16-year-old suspect that later admitted to the shooting, even though the others will not reveal which one of them pulled the trigger.

Lane’s girlfriend, Sarah Harper, who described her time with Lane as being “the most amazing time in my life” also left a message about her boyfriend on Facebook:

“I love you so much babe. From 2009 until forever you will always be mine and in a very special and protected place in my heart.’….It’s a very angry yet extremely sad time. No one deserves to die that way. Not even the boys involved….Don’t get me wrong, I want them to rot in hell, but no one should be blindly taken from the back so unexpectedly and without any reason.”

One of the alleged killers previously posted the violent video below on Vine:

The three suspects are now being held in Stephens County Jail and will be charged today. They will face first-degree murder charges, a crime that has the possibility of getting the death penalty in the state of Oklahoma.
