Guess that “Control” verse did more than rile up irrelevant rappers.

Ten months after its release, Kendrick Lamar’s major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, has officially reached platinum status. Kendrick was presented his platinum plaque shortly after a show last night.

The Compton rapper’s album made its way back to Billboard’s Top 40 albums after his verse on Big Sean’s bonus track “Control” stirred up controversy. Last year, GKMC debuted at number two on the charts, selling about 242,000 copies, falling behind Taylor Swift’s Red album reign.

Fans probably won’t get a new Kendrick album this year, but we’re hopeful for a new K.Dot project in early 2014. Congrats to Kendrick and the whole TDE family.
