Looks like somebody is going to have to pay up for all that vintage Dada gear. Drake, whose name is rarely synonymous with lawsuits that extend beyond “Marvin’s Room,” is getting slapped with a $40,000 lawsuit by his former stylist. He probably really meant it when he said “No New Friends.”
According to a Manhattan lawsuit, Drake hired Michael Raphael of the Lower East Side last August to be his personal shopper and create a signature wardrobe filled with Versace, Versace, and of course a healthy dosage of COOGI sweaters sprinkled in. But somehow, somewhere, wires got crossed and the stylist allegedly got stiffed by Drake.
The New York Post reports:
Raphael, 30, who even moved to Canada to be at the Toronto-born singer’s side for photo and video shoots, was canned just months later, in December. According to the Manhattan Supreme Court suit, he never got paid for his work. The stylist submitted receipts for clothing and accessories he’d bought for Drake and charged to his own debit card, including $347.99 at Footlocker, $579.49 at J. Crew and $900 in travel costs to deliver a pendant to Drake for the American Music Awards…He says he’s also on the hook for $7,000-plus in hotel bills and airline tickets, plus more for other services.
Whew! Raphael isn’t just a fly-by-night stylist either, the 30-year-old also owns the appointment-only boutique Rest Store, tucked away on the second floor of a Mulberry Street building.
There’s no word from Drake on the accusations, but what’s $40Gs when you’re 25 sitting on $25 mil? We’re sure the issue will dissolve into obscurity once Drake pays up.
