J. Cole releases a thought-provoking video for his Born Sinner single “Crooked Smile.”

Confronting the social issue of the “War On Drugs,” J. Cole’s “Crooked Smile” video addresses the issue of the criminalization of black men and the legitimacy of the criminal justice system.

Inspired by the case of Aiyana Stanley-Jones, a 7-year-old who was gunned down during a police raid in Detroit, J. Cole depicts his seemingly normal life with his kid sister as a low level drug dealer.

Shortly after celebrating his sister’s birthday, the DEA raid J. Cole’s house as his daughter sleeps in the room next door. As she hears the commotion, J. Cole’s sister opens her bedroom door and is subsequently gunned down by the feds.

The video ends with a powerful message dedicated to Aiyana Stanley-Jones and urges the government to “please end on the war on drugs.”

J. Cole is currently on his “What Dreams May Come” tour with Wale. Check out J. Cole’s new video up top.
