Julianne Hough is still getting a lot of heat for dressing up as Crazy Eyes from the Netflix show Orange Is The New Black and painting her face a darker shade of brown during a Hollywood Halloween party last weekend.

Now, transgender OITNB star Laverne Cox, who plays Sophia, is speaking out about Julianne’s costume choice:

“I wasn’t offended,” she told Us Magazine. “I thought it was a shame that she is in this country, that she would wear blackface and not understand the historical implications of that.”

“I don’t think Julianne is making a specific, informed choice to comment on blackness,” Cox continued. “I just think it’s out of ignorance. That’s really sad.”

It wasn’t all bad; Laverne is glad Julianne is a fan of the show.

But Laverne isn’t the only one who spoke up defending Julianne. Singer and Reality Star, Tamar Braxton voiced her opinions on VH1’s The Morning Buzz stating:

“She doesn’t look African-American to me, She looks like me with a tan!”

“I mean,” she clarified, “I am African-American, but I’m just saying—like if you had four tans on top of each other—you know what I’m saying, like the spray tans? That’s what she looks like!”

“I think people are on team too much right now, cause it’s Halloween, and you should go dressed as you want to”

Well sheesh, Tamar’s opinions are quite a controversy too.

We don’t think Julianne will make that mistake ever again…but unfortunately, she shouldn’t have made it in the first place.
