Really, Target?

If you’re looking forward to purchasing a physical copy of Beyonce’s head-exploding new album, don’t go to Target – because they won’t have it in stock.

The huge music retailer is refusing to carry the album due to Beyonce’s decision to exclusively release her self-titled album digitally on iTunes.

Billboard contacted Target spokeswoman Erica Julkowski, who stated:

“At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections. While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new self-titled album Beyonce.”

Beyonce’s self-titled album was released on Friday, December 13 and broke all of iTunes’ digital sales records within three days. The 32-year-old diva sold a whopping 828,773 copies of Beyonce in 72 hours.

Just yesterday, Beyonce released the HD version of new video “Drunk In Love” on VEVO. Hours later, she followed up with the release of the Terry Richardson-directed video “XO.”
