The Daily Grind Video

Far too often, flipping through the glossy pages of mainstream beauty publications results in a oversaturation of beauty tips and tricks, none of which seem to be for women of color. That’s where Rah Ali comes in.

You may know the bright-haired beauty from her appearance on Love & Hip-Hop: New York, but her coin extends far beyond the realms of reality TV. Rah has served as the go-to shoe girl for all your luxury needs, has authored a book, and her latest endeavor is collaborative beauty line Saige Skin Care with Dr. Steven Greenberg.

When we got wind of the new line, we knew we had to get involved when Rah introduced her first Saige Skin Care Beauty Bar Lounge at Deify Beauty Spa. For one night only, Saige Skin Care and GlobalGrind will team up for an intimate all-access conversation on beauty brands, myths, and tips for women of color with myself, style editor of, beauty and lifestyle editor of Ty Alexander, Social Media manager of EBONY magazine Toya Menzie, Emmy nominated host and style maven Kèla Walker, owner of Deify Laser + Beauty Lounge Melissa Cavanaugh, and Glow Spray beauty expert Natalie Cupid, moderated by Saige Skin Care’s Rah Ali.

Guests will be able to enjoy complimentary services including Washes, Dry Bar, Eyebrow Threading, Manicures, Glow Body Tans, and Laser Hair Removal Consultation and refreshments. But before we jump into the fun, we wanted to catch up with the lady who made it all possible, Rah Ali, to find out some of her beauty secrets for flawless skin, and boy, does she have a few.

Check out the exclusive interview with Rah below.

GlobalGrind: What inspired you to make the career switch from the luxury shoe market to beauty?

Rah Ali: I wouldn’t say that I’ve made a career change at all. Shoes are still 100% my forte and first love. I would say that I am pursuing all of my personal dreams as a whole. I have a number of projects I am extremely devoted to and proud of. One being Encore Shoetique, my private label shoe line, of course SAIGE the skincare line, as well as my book A King and An Ace that will release March 27. Love & Hip-Hop is a small portion of my life. I am extremely grateful for the platform and opportunities it’s afforded me, however there is a lot more to come.

What are some of your personal beauty regimens that you brought to the table for your collaboration with Dr. Steven Greenberg. What was the target demographic at the inception of the line?

The target demographic of SAIGE is actually quite similar to that of my shoe line. It’s really women just like you and me. The everyday working woman that simply wants to maintain or improve what was naturally given to her. As far as tips, I have a number of quirky beauty regimens I live by. Some may even sound extremely odd, but listen, they work. I recommend massaging an ice cube over your face until it melts. I do it every other night before bed and it keeps the fat cells, wrinkles and acne far away. I’m also a frequent user of Pepto-Bismol and/or Phillips. It isn’t just a stomach reliever, (my fiancé uses it internally like everyone else, however I do just the opposite), I use it as a facial mask. It contains bismuth subsalicylate, which is often found in facial creams. I recommend spreading two teaspoons of Pepto-Bismol on your face, allowing it to dry for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Another tip I can’t express enough (especially to women of color) who often feel excluded from this advice is to wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine. Even when it’s cloudy. It is a fact that 80% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays pass through the clouds.

Can fans of Love & Hip-Hop count on seeing you develop your beauty brand on camera?

My Love & Hip-Hop fans (rather supporters) are extremely loyal and they have and will continue to take part in the things I do on and off camera. I’m excited to open my home this year and really give them a chance to join me in the staples of my career, from my professional endeavors all the way to my wedding taking place this year.
