A 39-year-old woman from Argentina is dead after she reportedly injected her breasts with Vaseline in an attempt to augment them.

Sonia Perez Llanzon suffered a pulmonary embolism — a blood clot in her lungs — as a result of the augmentation. She died several weeks after the procedure.

Argentine newspaper La Capital reported that Llanzon went to a Santa Rosa hospital after she developed difficulty breathing. She denied injecting herself with petroleum jelly, but later admitted to the procedure.

“In all my medical career, I’ve never seen a case like this. The human body has antibodies to remove bacteria and viruses, but it hasn’t got any mechanisms against this type of product,” Julio Pla Cardenas, chief of surgery at Lucio Molas Hospital in Santa Rosa said, according to Sipse.com

The Vaseline entered the woman’s blood stream, where it caused blood clots that eventually traveled to her lungs, doctors said. Llanzon died as a result of pulmonary embolism following a month-long hospitalization.

A Facebook post by her son, Kevin Berazategui, indicates that Llanzon died March 6.

“It has been two days since you haven’t been here in this world… I will love you forever. The 20 years I spent by your side were beautiful,” Berazategui wrote in a Facebook post dated March 8, according to a HuffPost translation. “I’m going to live my life as a demonstration of your efforts as a fighter, as my lion-hearted mother.”

Our prayers and condolences to Llanzon’s family.
