UPDATE: 2:00 PM EST

Jameis Winston has been suspended by the Florida State baseball team following his misdemeanor citation Tuesday.

FSU baseball Coach Mike Martin says, “As a result of his citation last night, we are suspending Jameis Winston from the baseball team.

“I am confident he will complete his community service obligation and the situation will be resolved soon.”

FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher added, “I fully support Coach Martin’s decision and will also make sure that Jameis meets all obligations, which I know he will.”

So this happened. In Florida. Of course.

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was busted after shoplifting crab legs from a Publix grocery store on Tuesday.

Because…hungry.

Winston, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, was issued a citation for the bushel burglary, according to multiple sources. But this isn’t the first time he’s had run-ins with the law.

He was investigated for an alleged rape, but the State Attorney declined to bring charges due to a lack of evidence. In November, the associated press reported that Winston was questioned about his involvement in a long-running BB gun battle, and that a Burger King reported Winston was stealing soda in a ketchup cup.

Ridiculous, yes, but knowing that a football player who has brought so much revenue to the team has to steal food is, well, disheartening.
