Orange Is The New Black actor Jason Biggs has apologized after attempting to make light of the crash of two separate Malaysian Airlines flights.
“Anyone wanna buy my Malaysia Airlines frequent flier miles?” Biggs joked shortly after news broke. He then added, “In all seriousness, tho- HOW DO YOU MISTAKENLY SHOOT DOWN A COMMERCIAL PLANE?! Ugh. It’s saddest for the victims and their families, obviously. But Malaysia Airlines is apparently a GREAT airline. Gonna be tough to recover.”
While he was obviously trying to shed some light on an otherwise dim situation, his tweet was met with plenty of backlash from outraged Twitter users.
After being flooded with angry tweets, the former American Pie star fired back saying, “Hey all you “too soon” assholes- it’s a fucking joke. You don’t have to think it’s funny, or even be on my twitter page at all.”
“The idea that I wouldn’t have any empathy 4 the victims or their families because I make a joke is absolutely ridiculous. U know that, right?,” he continued.
“Truly- you losers are literally trying to find shit to get angry about. Channel your issues elsewhere.”
A few hours later it seems Jason had a change of heart. The 36-year-old sent out a lengthy apology to anyone offended by his previous tweets and then deleted the joke, which he called “insensitive and ill-timed.”
