We already knew Zoe Saldana was a spunky Latina, and now she’s airing it all out with Cosmo for Latinas. The Guardians of the Galaxy star is glowing on the cover of the fall issue in a very sexy mesh top. Inside, Zoe shows off her gorgeous figure in futuristic-inspired ensembles that show exactly why she was deemed the ‘goddess of sci-fi’.
But don’t get too mesmerized by Zoe’s flawless complexion and stunning looks, because there is much more to the actress. Along with her beauty and knack for playing aliens from other worlds, Zoe has a sassy attitude and isn’t afraid to give you an earful. In Cosmo, she dishes about her future children, being a Latina in Hollywood, and what makes a good relationship.
Growing up in the Dominican Republic for a significant amount of her life, Zoe says:
Spanish was my first language. Then you go to school, and within a month you’re completely an English baby. So that’s the battle you’re always having: It’s English out there and Spanish in the house. I don’t say “mommy,” I say “mami.”
Because of her deep heritage, she also thinks it’s important to show a more diverse side of Hollywood. But even out of the Hollywood scene, the mother-to-be says her kids will be aware of their background.
“Of course [our children] will speak the languages that we speak; my sisters and I grew up learning French and speaking English and Spanish, and because of that, we’re able to understand Italian and Portuguese. But I’m going to have to make a conscious effort to speak Spanish to my children, because I speak Spanglish.”
And finally, Zoe spills on what makes a man “sexy” in her eyes. She’s definitely into a 50:50 type of relationship.
“A man who has a natural respect for women — I don’t want a man who worships me: Stay away from those. Worshipping doesn’t count as really seeing me. I like men who work with women, are challenged by women, learn from women.”
