As the lights dimmed and the music cued at Desigual’s NYFW show, it was apparent that the tropical ambiance experienced in their storefront locations was packed up and transported over to Lincoln Center.
Next emerged supermodel Adriana Lima, causing the audience and photogs to break into a craze of cheers in between snapping pics. The beauty traded in her Vicki’s Secret angel wings to slip into a more Desigual appropriate attire of Hawaiian prints, full bloom florals, and vibrant colors.
What followed Lima on the runway was nothing short of what one envisions when dreaming of spring and summer combined; that being a kaleidoscope of warm weathered hues, bright flowers, carefree silhouettes, and of course, the ability to show flashes of skin.
As models stomped down the catwalk – with floral crowns atop their heads – the club music blared from the speakers, and they traded in the typical blank-stare runway faces for sweet smiles. Some were also armed with cartoon-like signs that held playful notes like “looking for a boyfriend” and “I love photographers.”
The brand, which holds a boisterous moniker due to its promotion of positivity and good energy, held true to their concept with their “Say Something Nice” SS 15 collection.
Trends Spotted: Prints on prints with stripes as their canvas. Black and white motifs reminiscent of Mediterranean style. Embroidered necklines with circular shapes and beading incorporated.
Faces in the Front Row: Rosario Dawson (actress), Olivia Palermo (socialite and style maven), and Poppy Delevingne (socialite).
My Rating: Desigual took out the often seriousness of Fashion Week to put on a lively show that speaks to the youthful spirit in us, while serving outfits that we would add to our vacation style checklist.
My Favorite Look: The black and white geometric print blouse with slits that display a peek of arm cleavage paired with printed slim legged pants.
