The creative geniuses behind American Horror Story: Freak Show are spilling some serious behind the scenes secrets, like how in the world they got one actress to look like a conjoined twin and just how long it takes to film one bone-chilling episode of the hit series.
Following the series premiere, many fans were curious how it’s possible that Sarah Paulson, the award-winning actress who plays conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler, appears to have a double.
According to showrunner Ryan Murphy, producers weren’t sure they could pull it off initially, but they discovered a cool trick to make it happen.
“Most people who do conjoined twins do something where they connect them at the chest and you historically have two actors playing those different parts,” Murphy said. “I really wanted Sarah to be both roles because I thought that would be more challenging. We did a test early on that was good, but I didn’t love it. I thought if we kept working on it, it would get better – and it did.”
So what exactly is this special trick? The show’s production team had to take a mold of Paulson’s head and create two prosthetic heads to use – one for Dot and the other for Bette.
“So when Sarah is doing her coverage where she’s Dot, she has a fake head to her left, which is Bette, and it moves,” Ryan said. “She will record her dialogue that the other one has and she’ll have and ear wig, so she literally has to do scenes with herself, which is insane. It’s absolutely crazy.”
Shooting scenes with Sarah takes anywhere from 12 to 15 hours, while everyone else’s scenes take just five hours on average. Read more about Sarah’s role on the show here.
Prepare yourself for some nostalgia, folks.
A new Ghostbusters film is underway and we could not be more excited.

Director Paul Feig took to Twitter to share the good news, which was further confirmed by Sony Pictures’ retweet. There are no further details surrounding the film or its release.
Speaking of nostalgia, Showtime and MGM Television are said to be working on creating a series based on the 1967 Oscar-winner In The Heat of the Night.
The series will be created by Tate Taylor, who rose to fame after working on The Help and the James Brown biopic Get On Up. Taylor will be writing and directing the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original film explored character and race in what was then modern-day Mississippi. It was based on a novel written by John Ball in 1965. The book was the story of a white man and a black man working together to crack a murder case in a racially divided Southern town. The film starred Sidney Poitier, Rod Steiger, and Warren Oates.
Necole Bitchie recently sat down with Jennifer Hudson to get candid about celebrity life, staying grounded and much, much more.
During the intimate interview, Jennifer revealed that, despite her fame, she chooses to live in her hometown of Chicago. Hudson says that this decision allows her to maintain some aspects of normalcy in that she’s able to evade the paparazzi for the most part, and avoid a majority of those celebrity hotspots.

According to Us Weekly, Mariah “texted Nas, wondering if he had any friends she could go out with – or even just hook up with,” a source said. “But Nas is nervous to introduce her to anyone.”
Mariah and Nas have reportedly been friends for years, even coming together to collaborate on the song “Dedicated” in 2014. Prior to that, it was rumored the pair was much more than just friends, but Nick was quick to shut those rumors down during an appearance on the Howard Stern show at the top of this year.
“Nas is a friend of mine, he’s a friend of hers,” Cannon said. “She went to his birthday party, and I think it was in L.A. We actually talked about this before. It’d be very difficult to make me jealous.”
While Mariah reportedly searches for a new man, Nick is keeping busy with his boys. The America’s Got Talent host was spotted out with former American Idol judge Randy Jackson. The two were seen dining with an unidentified blonde at Beverly Hills hot spot Matsuhisa late last month.
“After Randy left,” a source said, Nick and the female “kept chatting and laughing. Nick had a big smile on his face.”
We wish Nick and Mariah the best.
